University of Missouri President Mun Choi

University of Missouri President Mun Choi has been elected secretary of the Council of Presidents for the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. In this role, he will serve on the APLU Board of Directors’ Executive Committee.

The APLU is comprised of university leaders who collaborate to increase student success and workforce readiness, promote groundbreaking scientific research and strengthen economic and community engagement among its membership of more than 250 public research universities.

Choi was appointed to the APLU Board of Directors in 2023. That same year, he was elected chair of the APLU’s Commission on Food, Environment and Renewable Resources

Earlier this year, Choi began a two-year term as vice president of the Southeastern Conference’s Executive Committee, which is responsible for approving the annual operating budget for the conference and overseeing all of the SEC’s financial and fiscal affairs.

Choi has served as the 24th president of the University of Missouri System since 2017 and in a dual role as president of the UM System and chancellor of Mizzou since 2020. Under his leadership, Mizzou has seen record student success levels and enrollment increases, as well as a significant rise in research expenditures. In 2021, he launched MizzouForward, a transformational initiative focused on faculty excellence, infrastructure growth and student success. He is also overseeing major university projects, including NextGen MURR, a planned 20-megawatt, state-of-the-art research reactor; the Energy Innovation Center; The Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory; the Dr. Dan Brown Building, which houses the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory; the Memorial Stadium Centennial Project; and commercial development opportunities to leverage university land to provide meaningful revenue, boost the area’s economy and enhance the gameday experience for fans.

In September, the University of Missouri Board of Curators extended his contract to 2031.
