Choi begins term as vice president of Southeastern Conference Executive Committee

He will serve in the role for two years before becoming president of the committee.

University of Missouri President Mun Choi will begin a two-year term as vice president of the Southeastern Conference’s Executive Committee on July 1.

The SEC Executive Committee is responsible for approving the annual operating budget for the conference and oversees all of the SEC’s financial and fiscal affairs.

Serving alongside President Choi are Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman, who begins a two-year term as president of the committee, and Texas A&M University Faculty Athletics Representative Paul Batista, who will become secretary.

Joining the committee are University of Mississippi Chancellor Glenn Boyce; University of Georgia Director of Athletics Josh Brooks; and University of Florida Faculty Athletics Representative Chris Janelle. University of Kentucky Senior Woman Administrator Rachel Baker is a continuing member of the committee.

Choi has served as the 24th president of the University of Missouri System since 2017 and has served in a dual role as president of the UM System and chancellor of Mizzou since 2020. Under his leadership, Mizzou has seen year-over-year enrollment increases, as well as a significant rise in research expenditures. In 2021, he launched MizzouForward, a transformational initiative focused on faculty excellence, infrastructure growth and student success. He is also overseeing major university projects, including NextGen MURR, a planned 20-megawatt, state-of-the-art research reactor; the Energy Innovation Center; The Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory; and the Dr. Dan Brown Building, which houses the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
