Sarah Parsons recently received the Jay and Lisa Nouss Award for Teaching Excellence, the most prestigious internal teaching award offered by the University of Missouri’s Department of Economics.
The $5,000 award recognizes Parsons’ efforts in designing and leading Econ 3251: Introduction to Applied Econometric Practice.
“Dr. Parsons is instrumental in teaching our majors and getting them excited to do undergraduate research or thinking about research careers in economics,” said Jeff Milyo, professor and chairman of the Department of Economics. “We really appreciate her skill and enthusiasm as an adjunct instructor, and we are thrilled to honor her with this award.”
In addition to teaching economics, Parsons is a full-time senior research analyst in Strategic Initiatives and Assessment in Mizzou’s Division of Student Affairs.
“Receiving this award is a great honor and pleasant surprise,” Parsons said. “One goal of my course is to help students develop practical skills in working with real-world data, which is a challenge I encounter frequently in my research role with Student Affairs.”
The Nouss award is made possible by a generous gift from Jay and Lisa Nouss in honor of the memory of Professor John Kuhlman, who influenced thousands of students through his commitment to student success in economics.
