Sarah Diem named interim dean of the MU College of Education and Human Development

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Matthew Martens has named Sarah Diem interim dean of the College of Education and Human Development, effective July 1. Diem currently serves as professor and chair for the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis and is a faculty affiliate in the Harry S. Truman School of Government and Public Affairs and the Qualitative Inquiry program in the College of Education and Human Development.

Diem’s research focuses on the social, political and geographic contexts and outcomes of educational policies. She has published five books, more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and several policy and research briefs.

Since 2016, Diem has served as a Fellow for the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center, one of four regional centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. She is also director of the Hook Center for Educational Leadership and District Renewal. Diem received her doctorate in educational policy and planning from the University of Texas at Austin.

Outgoing Dean T. Chris Riley-Tillman is departing for the provost role at Washington State University.
