Ben Canlas named interim UM System vice president for information technology and MU chief information officer

University of Missouri President Mun Choi announced today that Ben Canlas, director of enterprise application services, has been named interim University of Missouri System vice president for information technology and MU chief information officer.

The University of Missouri System Office of Information Technology is responsible for providing leadership in the planning and implementation of information technologies across the University of Missouri System. The office also provides a set of information technology services to higher education, K–12 institutions, libraries and state government through MOREnet operations. The MU Division of Information Technology collaborates with university leadership and committees to determine organizational IT strategies, policies, priorities, and resource allocations. The division and its leaders also provide direction in how to best utilize and integrate the university’s information technology infrastructure, resources, and services.

Canlas has more than 20 years of experience within the university in various leadership roles and brings a wealth of IT experience to this position. In his current role as director of enterprise application services, Canlas is responsible for the university’s enterprise systems and associated business solutions. These systems include administrative application systems; student administrative application systems; MU student information systems; workflow and document management systems; enterprise service management systems; database services; and custom application development.
