Roseanna N. Zia has been named a 2025 American Physical Society (APS) Fellow. She is the Dave Wollersheim Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Missouri.
The honor recognizes Zia’s pioneering contributions to the physics of soft and biological matter, including the development of colloidal models that reveal the physical principles governing intracellular transport and whole-cell dynamics.
Zia is also a recipient of two Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. Her work 3D diffusion of ribosome-sized particles in live Escherichia coli cells was recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The Zia Research Group unifies mesoscale physics and chemistry with cellular-level biology through novel theoretical modeling and large-scale computational simulations.
