Each year, the University of Missouri Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women presents the Jordan Hoyt Memorial Tribute Award to a student, staff and faculty member who, through education and advocacy, have worked tirelessly to uplift and empower women. Named in honor of Jordan Hoyt, a proud Mizzou alumna, this award celebrates those who embody her legacy of creating positive change.
This year’s recipients are:
Morgan Silanskis, senior, Natural Resources Science and Management, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
Silanskis is shaping a bright future in natural resources. By creating a supportive, empowering community, she has helped expand membership of Mizzou Women in Natural Resources and inspired women to step into leadership roles within the Forestry Club.
Joan Haaf, patrol officer, Crime Prevention and K9 Unit, MU Police Department
Haaf has dedicated 45 years to a career in law enforcement, inspiring countless women and creating pathways where none existed. Since joining MUPD in 2011, as the department’s first female K9 handler, Haaf has continued her trailblazing work as crime prevention officer and explosives detection K9 handler.
Elizabeth J. Parks, professor, Department of Nutrition & Exercise Physiology, School of Medicine
Parks is renowned for her mentorship of women in science, recognizing the unique challenges they face and empowering them to reach their full potential. She is not only shaping the future of science but also training the next generation of mentors.
"This year’s awardees are trailblazing women who have broken down barriers, created opportunities where none existed, and gone beyond mentorship to empower and shape the next generation of leaders,” Amruta Padhye, co-chair of the committee, said.
