In the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report, the University of Missouri continues its rise to the top, earning accolades for its innovative, accessible and student-focused online degree programs.

Mizzou ranked No. 25 for best online bachelor’s degree programs nationwide, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Online Programs. That’s up three spots from last year. Mizzou also made significant strides in serving veterans, moving up four spots to No. 14 in best online bachelor’s degrees for veterans.

In addition to these achievements, Mizzou was ranked among the top 20 in the nation in several other categories:  best online master’s in nursing education (No. 6), best online master’s in special education (No. 14), and best online bachelor’s in business programs (No. 17).

Mizzou Online offers more than 185 degrees and certificates at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Online students have access to Mizzou libraries, tutors, academic coaching and other resources.

“We are proud to be one of the country’s top universities for impactful online education,” said University of Missouri President Mun Choi. “Our hardworking faculty and staff are dedicated to academic excellence and the success of all Tigers, no matter where they live. Together, we are educating a new generation of leaders for Missouri and the world while providing our students with the skills they need to thrive and make a difference.”

The new rankings are included in the 2025 edition of Best Online Programs ranking released by U.S. News & World Report and are based on data from 2024. Universities with online programs are ranked in four categories: engagement, services and technologies, faculty credentials and training, and peer assessment. A program’s score for each factor, or ranking indicator, is calculated using data that online programs report to U.S. News in an annual survey. The ranking methodologies for online programs are separate from those for U.S. News’ Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools rankings. Ranking methodologies are typically updated on an annual basis.
