Sue Boren, a professor in the University of Missouri College of Health Sciences, was recently named the 2024 recipient of the Quint Studer Gratitude Prize for Teaching Excellence by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).

The prize was established in 2021 to honor Quint Studer, a successful health care executive and entrepreneur, for his years of service to the fields of health care management and leadership.

“Quint Studer’s unwavering recognition of the pivotal role that educators play in nurturing future health care leaders is truly commendable,” Boren said. “One of the greatest joys in my career has been working with students. Witnessing the positive changes they make as professionals in our health care systems is truly heartwarming. Throughout my professional journey, I am grateful for the exceptional mentors who have guided me and the dedicated AUPHA colleagues with whom I’ve had the privilege to collaborate.”

Leah Vriesman, a professor with the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and chair of the Studer Prize Selection Committee, said the group decided to recognize Boren due to her successes in leadership, mentorship, teaching, community engagement and health care administration scholarship.

In addition to directing the Master of Health Administration program in the Mizzou College of Health Sciences, Boren works to shape health informatics at the national level.

She was elected as fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics in 2022, which recognizes scholars and practitioners who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics. Boren was inducted as a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) in 2021 and co-chairs the Women in AMIA Steering Committee. She also serves on the board of directors for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
