Six University of Missouri undergraduate students were recently awarded the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a program designed to enable students with financial barriers to study or intern abroad. The scholarship aids recipients in developing skillsets critical to our national security and economic prosperity. Students will have the opportunity to gain insight into diverse cultures and develop their language expertise.
“Gilman is a fantastic opportunity for these students to take their college experience to a new level,” said Erik Potter, program manager for the MU Office of Global and National Fellowships. “Even more, all of the students who worked on their application with a fellowships adviser, a study abroad adviser and a Writing Center tutor have learned how to better advocate for their own academic and career goals.”

- Sophomore music major from Columbia, Missouri
- Destination: Ireland
Kenny Henk
- Sophomore plant sciences major, who is also pursuing the Honors Certificate, from Wentzville, Missouri
- Destination: New Zealand
Nicole Morris
- Junior health science major from Rolla, Missouri
- Destination: Cyprus
Jacob Smith
- Junior mechanical engineering major from Columbia, Missouri
- Destination: Japan
Reade Snelling
- Junior journalism major, who is also pursuing the Honors Certificate, from St. Louis, Missouri
- Destination: India
