NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising awarded the 2024 Michael C. Holen Pacesetter Award to Jim Spain, vice provost for undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri.

Established in 1983, the NACADA Global Awards Program honors individuals and institutions making significant impacts on academic advising.

Spain is an advocate for teaching and learning and works to support all aspects of student success at Mizzou. Cecilia Olivares, Mizzou’s director of academic initiatives, and Rachael Cobb Orr, director of MU Connect, nominated Spain for the honor and accompanied him to the award ceremony at NACADA’s annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“This is a very humbling honor,” Spain said. “It is made even more special given my colleagues at Mizzou prepared and submitted the packet nominating me for the award. I was proud to represent MU at the awards ceremony.”

NACADA is the premier association for student success through academic advising in higher education.
