With innovations in technology, students have more options to pursue a world-class education. The University of Missouri delivers top online degree programs that meet the needs of digital learners, according to U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings.

In U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Online Programs, MU ranks No. 28 in best online bachelor’s degree programs out of 339 universities nationwide.

Other categories in which MU ranked as a top university in the country include best online bachelor's in business programs (No. 8), best online master’s in education programs (No. 19) and best online master’s in business programs (No. 38).

“Our dedicated effort to provide students – no matter their location – a premier education is getting well-deserved recognition," said Robin Wenneker, chair of the UM Board of Curators. "This ranking from U.S. News & World Report adds a layer of prestige and affirms our commitment to meeting the needs of students. Whether Tigers join us in the classroom or online, the strength of our programs knows no bounds and welcomes scholars from our backyard and around the world who desire a top-notch education."

The efforts to increase access to quality online education have paid off, as MU offers more than 180 life-changing degrees and certificates. Enrollment of distance students at MU has grown nearly 9% over the past three academic years.

“These strong rankings reflect the high quality of our online programs and the incredible impact of a Mizzou degree,” University of Missouri President Mun Choi said. “Whether online or on campus, Mizzou students receive a world-class education that prepares them for future career success.”

Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranks MU’s online bachelor’s programs, online master’s in business programs and online master’s in education programs as best in the state of Missouri.

The new rankings are included in the 2024 edition of Best Online Programs ranking released today by U.S. News & World Report and are based on data from 2023. Universities with online programs are ranked in four categories: engagement, services and technologies, faculty credentials and training, and peer assessment. A program’s score for each ranking indicator is calculated using data that the university reported to U.S. News & World Report in a statistical survey and from data collected in a separate peer assessment survey. To determine its rankings, U.S. News & World Report weighs how online programs are being delivered and their effectiveness at awarding degrees in a reasonable amount of time.
