The University of Missouri campus and UM System offices in Columbia will shift to remote operations from 12:01 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 22 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, due to expected winter weather conditions.

Any classes currently being taught will be held remotely. Instructors should communicate this shift with their students as soon as possible, share plans for their classes and provide any necessary resources, such as Zoom links or online learning materials. If a class has significant in-person requirements, such as laboratories, clinical classes or clinical rotations, the instructor should provide clear communication to their students about their responsibilities during the time the university is shifting to remote operations.

Staff fall into one of three categories when a shift to remote work and learning takes place:

  • Those who aren’t required to work on-site and will telework from home or another location. Staff who do not telework must take paid time off — either personal or vacation days.
  • Those who cannot carry out their duties through telework and who are instructed that they are not required on-site to work will be compensated.
  • Those who are non-exempt (hourly) and are required to work on-site may be eligible to receive premium pay; those who are required to work on-site and choose not to must take paid time off — either personal or vacation days.

For information on how winter weather is affecting any off-campus activities, including clinics, off-campus meetings or conferences, please refer to the host location.

Staff should contact their supervisor if they are unsure which category they fit. As always, faculty, staff and students are expected to exercise good judgement when deciding if they can travel safely to campus during inclement weather.

Links to university services, including those offered by MU Health Care hospitals and clinics and the Veterinary Health Center, are listed online.

Details about MU’s campus closure policies and more can be found on the UM System website.
