Veronica Fritz, a rising senior biological engineering and mathematics student at the University of Missouri, is one of 55 recipients of the 2021 Udall Scholarship for her outstanding research in environmental studies. Fritz’s research examines sustainable agriculture by gathering and analyzing data from various local research plots by using sensors that measure how much water the soil retains to help gardeners and farmers maximize water efficiency thereby conserving resources.
The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment.
Winners of the scholarship receive access to the Udall Alumni Network, five days in Tucson, Arizona, at Scholar Orientation and up to $7,000 for academic expenses.
Fritz is only the sixth MU student to receive this scholarship.
