A new semester means campus is brimming with Tiger spirit. Now, it’s time to see the whole state and world roar.
The University of Missouri is working to stripe the state black and gold as a part of Black & Gold Fridays. The Mizzou community has been donning the school’s colors on Fridays for years, anticipating game days for 20 sports and more than 550 student athletes. Now, Tiger fans across the state and globe can join in the fun and show some Tiger pride in their corner of Missouri.
Participating is easy. Just put on some black and gold and share the look on social media using #StripeTheState and #MIZ (bonus points for pets)! The new tradition begins Friday, Sept. 3, just in time for College Colors Day.
“We know that Tiger Nation is represented in every corner of our state, across the nation and even to the far reaches of the globe," MU Athletics Director Desiree Reed-Francois said. "There is something special in coming together every Friday as Tigers everywhere show our collective pride in our state, in our university and in our Mizzou athletic teams. We have great momentum, and when our supporters proudly wear Black & Gold each Friday, there will be no doubt in the strength of Mizzou."
Past, present and future Tigers can connect online and share their stories about what makes Mizzou special to them. Whether it’s the world-renowned journalism program or the long-held homecoming traditions, there’s a host of attributes of Mizzou that are worth celebrating.
What’s more, being a land-grant institution means the research done on Mizzou’s campus has real-world impacts in communities across the state.
“Here at Mizzou, we thrive off of the sense of community and excellence that comes with being a Tiger,” said Mun Choi, University of Missouri president. “Wearing black and gold statewide reminds us all of that shared bond. No matter our backgrounds, we belong to a legacy of strong and competitive athletics, cutting-edge research and statewide service.”
The Mizzou community is not isolated to just a campus or a single city. That’s why Black & Gold Fridays will allow Tiger fans, no matter where they live, to contribute to the championship culture that is being built at Mizzou.
Need to stock up on Mizzou spirit wear? No problem! The Mizzou Store, located at the MU Student Center, will offer 25% off purchases on Black & Gold Fridays that precede home football games. Because who doesn’t need a new pair of tiger ears?
