Although her vision is obscured by a black hood, a member of Mortar Board flashes a peace sign. Students, faculty and staff were inducted into six secret honorary societies Friday.
The identities of the newest inductees into the University of Missouri’s secret honorary societies have been revealed. At the 90th annual Tap Day ceremony in Jesse Auditorium, QEBH, Mystical Seven, LSV, Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board and the Rollins Society honored new members for their service, leadership and commitment to the Mizzou community.

Members of Mortar Board, a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, are led to their seats in Jesse Hall before Tap Day ceremonies begin.

Frankie Minor, the faculty/staff adviser for the honor society Mystical Seven, coordinates behind-the-scenes responsibilities with honor tap Rebecca Martinez.

QEBH members receive instructions about where to proceed while back stage at Jesse Auditorium. Founded in 1898, QEBH is the oldest of six recognized secret honor societies that participate in the annual tradition of Tap Day on campus.

Until members are officially "tapped" on stage, signified by the removal of their hoods, their identities are hidden from the public, even when sitting in the crowd and awaiting their turn.

Nosa Eke, a bioengineering major from Kansas City, flashes a "hang loose" sign, used by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., to the crowd after getting tapped by QEBH.

Robin Pingeton, head coach for Mizzou women's basketball, waves to the crowd after getting tapped by QEBH. Pingeton is entering her seventh season at the helm. The Tigers completed the best campaign during her tenure in 2016-17, winning 22 games.

Members of Mystical Seven hold hands while on stage at Jesse Hall. Mystical Seven chooses seven outstanding seniors for membership based on their good deeds and selfless leadership and service to the campus and community.

Julia Schaller thrusts her fist in the air to support Frankie Hawkins, a 2017 tap for Mystical Seven.

Michaela Tucker holds the arm of her fellow LSV tap, who awaits her reveal to the public. LSV is a secret honorary society dedicated to promoting and improving the status of women and recognizing "the most outstanding upperclass women" at the university.

Established in 1994 by the Graduate Professional Council, the Rollins Society recognizes graduate and professional students who have significantly advanced the well-being of self-defined communities beyond the scope of their academic work.

Evonnia Woods wipes tears from her face during an honorary tap of Monica Hand, who passed away unexpectedly in December 2016. Hand was a graduate teaching assistant and PhD candidate at MU, an assistant professor of English at Stephens College and a poet.

Dr. Catherine Scroggs, vice chancellor for student affairs since 2003, speaks during Tap Day. It was announced in a news release Friday that Scroggs would be retiring from her position, effective July 31. Scroggs spent 32 years at MU in various roles.
