The University of Missouri inspires students to explore their interests across disciplines and beyond boundaries. At Mizzou, students test theories, expand their perspectives and unleash solutions that improve lives everywhere. And they have the opportunity to showcase their work at events across the state and nation.

Recently, 10 Tigers traveled to the Missouri Capitol to present their research to state lawmakers and government officials as part of the University of Missouri System's Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol.

Ahmed Ebada

Ahmed Ebada, a senior from Columbia, Missouri, presented his project, “Regulation of Egg Quality and DNA Repair by the Cytoskeleton." Ebada is a biological sciences major in the College of Arts and Science who has also earned an Honors Certificate.

David Ellenberger

Senior David Ellenberger presented research on “Determining How Antidepressants Taken During Pregnancy May Affect the Mother and Offspring." Ellenberger, who is from Branson, Missouri, is majoring in microbiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine and is also pursuing the Honors Certificate.

Emma McDougal

Emma McDougal, a senior from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, showcased her project: “Tuning Peptide Amphiphile Micelle Properties for Anti-Cancer Drug Delivery Applications." McDougal is a chemical engineering major in the College of Engineering and is also pursuing the Honors Certificate.

Benjamin Peter,

Benjamin Peter, a junior from Kirkwood, Missouri, shared his work on “Increasing Power Grid Security Using Machine Learning." Peter is pursuing an Honors Certificate and a degree in electrical engineering from the College of Engineering.

Nora Pryor

Junior Nora Pryor presented work on “Development of Theranostic Radiopharmaceuticals Using Tc-99m and Re-186 to Diagnose and Treat Cancer." Pryor, who is from Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, is pursuing a degree in chemistry from the College of Arts and Science, as well as pursuing an Honors Certificate.

Sydney Turner, a senior from Jackson, Missouri, shared her project, “The Power of Visibility in Virtual Communication." Turner is majoring in speech, language and hearing science at the College of Health Sciences while also pursuing an Honors Certificate.

Jaron VanHouden presented his research, "From Classroom to Community: The Role of Mentor Teachers in Supporting Missouri's Preservice Agricultural Educators." A senior from Oldfield, Missouri, VanHouden is majoring in agricultural education at the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Izaiah Vasseur

Senior Izaiah Vasseur from O’Fallon, Missouri, showcased his project, “Machine Learning in Automated Oxygen Delivery to Neonate Babies." Vasseur is a mathematics major in the College of Arts and Sciences pursuing the Honors Certificate.

Chloe Velcheck, a senior from O’Fallon, Missouri, presented her work on “Improving Veteran Well-being: How Sleep Therapy Could Reduce PTSD Symptoms in Veterans with Alcohol Use Disorder." Velcheck is a biological sciences major in the College of Arts and Science.

Senior Ruth Williamson from Raytown, Missouri, shared her project, “A Breath of Fresh Air: Comparing Health Promoting Compounds Between a Forest and a City Through the Lens of Forest Bathing." Williamson is majoring in plant sciences in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Mizzou students joined undergraduate researchers from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri University of Science and Technology and University of Missouri-St. Louis.
