Mizzou’s insect museum to host open house for 150th anniversary

WHAT:

The University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is celebrating 150 years of Mizzou’s insect museum with an open house. Explore the Enns Entomological Museum’s collection of nearly 7 million insect, arachnid and fossil specimens, including Aphis Mizzou, which was discovered at Mizzou.

The event also features bug-themed crafts for all ages, plus opportunities to see live tarantulas and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. Museum tours will be available.

The museum was founded in 1874 by C.V. Riley, an MU professor and Missouri’s first state entomologist. Riley donated his private collection to start the museum and served as its first curator.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
