The University of Missouri has launched a new campus safety app, Mizzou Safe. The app offers proactive and reactive safety features such as location sharing, push notifications, real-time reporting and text-to-911.
The Mizzou Safe app is powered by AppArmor, a Rave Mobile Safety company. The app is being used in university settings across the country to support reliable communication between students and first responders during emergencies. Mizzou officials are beginning a vigorous communications rollout to ensure students, faculty, staff and other campus stakeholders are aware of the various capabilities the app provides.
“With Mizzou Safe, we’re adding a great tool to our safety toolbox,” Interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Angela King Taylor said. “Choosing it was the result of listening to student leaders’ feedback and collaboration among university departments. It shows how we keep our campus safe by working together.”
University employees, students and alumni are encouraged to download the free campus safety tool to report non-emergency incidents to the University of Missouri Police Department, make emergency calls or texts to 911, receive MU Alerts, virtually walk home with a friend, and access campus resources or safety plans.
“As a student and student leader, I’m so happy to see university departments continuing to work in partnership to promote safety on our campus,” said Miyah Jones, president of the Missouri Students Association “It shows Mizzou cares about our security and is eager to provide added safety.”
The Mizzou Safe app is available as a free download in the iOS App and Google Play stores.
