WHAT:
After years of service as the goodwill ambassadors of the MU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), retired mules Tim and Terry will be honored with a party for their 30th birthdays.
Since mules first became the mascots of the CVM in 1984, the MU Mule Team has traveled throughout Missouri, attending parades, picnics and petting zoos while giving wagon rides.
WHO:
Tim and Terry were both born in 1993 and retired from the MU Mule Team in 2020.
The current Mule Team wagon leaders include Boone, a mule named after John William “Blind” Boone, a Civil War-era pianist who overcame blindness to become a nationally acclaimed composer, and George, a mule named after George Washington Carver, one of the most prominent Black scientists in the early 20th century and a professor at Tuskegee Institute.
The youngest mules currently in training for leading future wagon rides include Bess, named after Bess Truman, wife of former United States President and Missourian Harry Truman, and Rose, named after Rose O’Neill, an artist who became the first published female cartoonist in the U.S.
