Some members of the shocked sold-out crowd linger after the painful loss.
The Mizzou football team dropped to 7-1, 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference, after losing 27-24 in double overtime to South Carolina at Homecoming.
The Tigers led most of the game, taking a 17-0 lead into the fourth quarter. But the Gamecocks came back to tie the game with less than a minute to play, thanks to the return of their starting quarterback, Connor Shaw, and a defensive line led by the dominant Jadeveon Clowney.
In overtime, Mizzou scored a touchdown on a Marcus Murphy run, but South Carolina answered with a score of their own on fourth down. In the second period, the Tigers defense held South Carolina to a field goal. But when kicker Andrew Baggett tried to tie things up, the attempt bounced off the upright and missed narrowly to the left.
With the loss, the Tigers only dropped from No. 5 to No. 9 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings and still control their destiny in the SEC East division race. Up next, Mizzou faces Tennessee at 6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
