Five tips to stay safe in the heat

Things are heating up on campus. As classes resume — and we’re under an excessive heat warning — here are a few reminders to keep yourself safe and cool.

1. Stay hydrated.

Pack an extra water bottle and take advantage of water fountains on campus.

2. Don’t forget sunscreen.

Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and be sure to reapply every two hours.

3. Wear loose, light-colored clothing.

Light colors reflect most of the sun’s wavelengths — keeping the fabric (and you!) cooler.

4. Change your exercise schedule.

Try to work out when it’s coolest: early in the morning or late at night. You can also go to MizzouRec for a climate-controlled workout.

5. Keep exterior doors, windows and blinds closed.

This keeps cool air in while conserving energy.
